default shortcuts
- Tab
- Accept the next word by default.
- Backtick (`)
- Accept the full remaining suggestion.
- Esc
- Dismiss ghost text without inserting anything.
- Keep typing
- Ignore the suggestion and continue with your own text.
word or phrase acceptance
In Settings → Shortcuts → Acceptance Mode, choose whether the main accept key inserts one word or a larger phrase. The separate full- suggestion shortcut remains available either way.
Word-by-word is safer when a suggestion is only partly useful. Phrase acceptance is faster when you regularly want several words at once.
change or clear a key
- 1. Open Cotabby Settings → Shortcuts.
- 2. Choose Change beside Accept Word, Accept Entire Suggestion, or Toggle Cotabby.
- 3. Press the new key combination.
- 4. Use Reset to restore a default or Clear to unbind an action.
Cotabby rejects duplicate bindings between its own actions so one key cannot ambiguously mean two things.
punctuation and spaces
Writing settings can accept trailing commas or periods with a word and add a space after an accepted word. These controls affect inserted text, not which shortcut triggers acceptance.
See writing settings for suggestion length, multiline output, languages, and spelling.
when Tab belongs to the app
Use Settings → Apps to disable Cotabby for an application. Integrated terminals in VS Code and Cursor are off by default while editor and chat fields in the same app can continue suggesting.
